Getting started

A five-minute tour: install the app, paint a few hexes, roll a random world.

Install

Infinihex is a desktop app for macOS and Windows.

  1. Grab the build for your OS (macOS .dmg / Windows .exe).
  2. Install it like any app.

First launch — the "unidentified developer" warning. The early builds are unsigned, so your OS will warn you the first time:

  • macOS: right-click the app → OpenOpen again. If it says "damaged and can't be opened," run this once in Terminal: xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Infinihex.app
  • Windows: on the SmartScreen prompt, click More info → Run anyway.

After the first open it launches normally.

Make your first map

  1. New Map — pick a size and hex orientation (pointy- or flat-top).
  2. Pick a brush — choose a flat color (keys 15) or click a tile in the right rail to paint with art.
  3. Paint — click and drag across the grid. 0 erases.
  4. Save — your map is a single open file you can re-open and share.

Roll a random world

Not sure where to start? Let the generator rough one in:

  1. Click Generate Map.
  2. Tweak the dials — land amount, clustering (tight continents vs. scattered islands), climate.
  3. Confirm to drop it onto the canvas, then paint over anything you'd like to change.

What's next

  • Bring your own art — point Infinihex at any folder of tiles.
  • Export your map to a PNG to drop into your notes or a VTT.
